One quarter-final and a round-of-16 match today – Barry Boyd def David Lynn in their quarter final 3 & 2 whilst Rolfe Heldt def Ron Bensky 1 up in their round-of-16 match.  Rolfe will play Tony Fisk in a quarter final to determine who advances to the semis to play Steve Edmondston.  In the ‘top’ half of the ladder, Steve Parkinson is to play his round-of-16 match against Alan Smith on Friday to determine who progresses to a quarter final to meet David Hayes, with the winner of that tie to play Barry Boyd in the other semi-final.– Ladder: attached

Another foxy encounter:
Two foxes appeared near the bunker on the right of the 2^nd fairway today – one picked up David Lynn’s ball, then dropped it, only for the other to pick it up and disappear into the bush with it.

Foxy encounter:
A fox appeared from behind the bunker on the left of the 3^rd fairway today and approached our group, visiting each of us in turn – I think it was asking for food as it seemed healthy – see pics

Monthly Medal:
We had a very slow round with a 9.40am tee-off, and although the weather was not too hot, it was still wearying and this counted as results were mediocre.  Shining through though was our captain with a gross 81 and net 70 to take the bottle of red wine kindly donated by Graham Guy. Garth Irvine came second with gross 87, net 73 and together with Tom McClain was in a tie for best nine with Ian Johnsen and John Campbell.  On count-back, Tom with a net 35 on both nines claimed the back nine and Garth the front nine.

Gerry Gillett’s 100^th birthday celebration
It was great to see such a large gathering to celebrate Gerry’s 100^th birthday which occurred on 24 February.  In addition to the 22 players today, Gerry himself, Gerry’s son Graeme, daughter and husband, grand-daughter and husband and 2 great-grandchildren, four playing members who were not playing today (John Allen, Chris Wynne, Graham Guy and Adam Zeiba), and it was great to see two of our non-playing members again – Doug McCauley and Jimmy Chong – a gathering of 34!

Apologies to Graham Guy, as I had only heard about Richard R’s playing to his handicap at the Cut but I missed out on advising that Graham Guy did too – he scored 36 points and these are his photos of the day:

Eleven WCGC golfers got up around 4am to drive down to Mandurah to play the Cut course – congratulations to Richard Russell on scoring 36 points whereas another player who regularly scores in the low 90’s chalked 115 and lost 3 balls.  I expect there were other similar experiences.  Photos:
